City states.

More writing and world building for my fictional comic book.

City states. Something has altered the world dramatically and now the human population has been forced to build city states. Similar to medieval castles these city states have an outer wall and an inner wall. Inside the inner wall are enormously tall sky scrapers, and elevated roads. A bustling metropolis. Between the inner wall and the outer wall is suburbia, but with a twist. Backyards are filled with gardens and farms.  Technology is at an advanced stage so feeding large populations is quite easy, but still fresh food grown in the earth is a valuable commodity and most of the common folk ilk out a living by selling and trading fresh produce.  Not sure but I think there would be a factory sector as well maybe another wall between suburbia and the city or possibly just a wedge of the suburbia section.

Now beyond the outer wall is nature and evil run amok. The main city where most of the stories take place is surrounded by a desert. Other cities are surrounded by forests or marshes or swamps or mountains or snow/ice or jungle, etc...  Living outside the city states are evils. Cults such as the Dark Sun warriors, giant beasts, evil AIs, aliens,  basically your typical melting pot of evil for me to draw stories from. There are also what are known as wasteland hunters humans who salvage technology and riches from beyond the wall. The most infamous is my Arcturus character.

Now there is travel between city states but it is rare and usually in massive protected caravans. And the success rate is not great. That is why characters like the Avalon Knight or  Tatsu (Stormbringer, Stormtraveller Stormrider not sure yet on the name) are extremely powerful because they can travel between the cities without running into danger. Except of course Tatsu can only travel to the desert city state during the wet season and that is only a few days out of the year.
